Dr. Russell D. Kane KEYNOTE
President
iCorrosion LLC
Dr. Russell D. Kane is currently President of iCorrosion LLC and is an internationally recognized corrosion and materials consultant that specializes in evaluation, qualification, and selection of materials, corrosion prediction, corrosion monitoring, and failure analysis. He was the Founder of InterCorr International, Inc. (Houston, Texas) that was acquired by Honeywell International in July 2005. Prior to InterCorr, Dr. Kane was with Battelle Memorial Institute and Exxon Production Research Company.
Dr. Kane has been involved in a diverse range of projects in petroleum production, refining, pipelines and petrochemical applications. Going back to 1975, Dr. Kane and his colleagues at Exxon pioneered the use of corrosion resistant alloys (CRAs) for downhole tubulars and equipment, and he has been involved in the development or all main alloys group now used in oilfield operations: Martensitic, duplex and austenitic stainless steels, and Ni-base and Titanium alloys.
At Battelle, Dr. Kane initiated the first (and largest) joint industry sponsored research program (JIP) on materials for resistance to H2S corrosion, sulfide stress cracking and stress corrosion cracking. Later at InterCorr, he was the chief domain expert in develop of novel corrosion prediction and materials selection software tools that have become industry standards, and include: Predict (CO2/H2S corrosion), Socrates (selection of CRA materials) and Strategy (Steels to resist HIC, SOHIC and SSC). He is currently consultant on a Honeywell JIP evaluating service limits for titanium alloys for deep HPHT wells.
Dr. Kane has served on numerous committees of NACE and ASTM, including the NACE Board of Directors and Executive Committee. Dr. Kane received the ASTM Sam Tour Award for excellence in publication, the NACE A.B. Campbell Award for young authors, and the NACE Technical Achievement Award for his contributions on NACE technical committees. He has been a plenary lecturer for the NACE annual corrosion conference and keynote and plenary lecturer at many international conferences. Dr. Kane is currently a consultant to the API Refining Committee, Subcommittee on Corrosion & Materials Research, for Ethanol SCC.
Dr. Kane received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Metallurgy and
Materials Science from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland,
Ohio, and has over 250 technical publications (including five books)
on corrosion and metallurgical topics.
